President Madison Apartments, a historic multi-family residential property located in the heart of DuPont Circle, was in need of a refresh to bring back the building's classic charm. Having performed several other similar projects for Bernstein Management Corporation, Pizzano Contractors were chosen to deliver on the design. Performing common area upgrades in an occupied residential building is a challenge, but careful coordination and communication with the property management team and often directly with the residents allowed the project to be completed with minimal disruption.
Working in a historic property presents challenges - difficult existing conditions, lead paint, and trying to match historic features can all prove obstacles. Each of these problems were encountered during the project and addressed with minimal cost and schedule impacts. All new flooring, lighting, wall finishes, pilasters, and trim were installed throughout the three floors of common areas and corridors.
